Macbooks are ridiculously over priced..

I'm not quite sure why anyone would buy one of these things..

A 17-inch macbook pro starts at $2799 while an Alienware M17x starts at $1799.. in fact the 15-inch macbook pro starts at $1999..Already this is completely ridiculous.. but it gets even worse. Here are the specs.Processor- 2.93 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory- 8GB 1066 Mhz
Harddrive- 256GB solid state drive
Display- hi-res antiglare widescreen
Graphics card- nvidia 9600m GTThis all comes to $4,899.. although this is already a ridiculous price let's compare this to the M17xThe specs for one of these maxed out areProcessor- Intelcore 2 exteme quad qx9300 2.53 Ghz
OS- home premium 64-bit
Graphics card- dual nvidia geforce GTX 280M 2GB
LCD panel- 17-inch (1200p)
memory- 8GB 1333 Mhz
hard drive- 1TB
internal optical drive- duel layer blue-ray combo

All of this comes to.. ready for it? $4699
Quite amazingly the M17x comes out cheaper than a Macbook even with vastly superior specs.Hmm.. something just does not seem right here, especially when you consider that the macbook would be even more expensive if you choose to have things like finalcut installed on to it. Now really.. I can understand why people might like apple's OS better than windows, but I cannot understand why anyone would shell out that much money for a laptop that's not worth it. Let's face it people, when you buy from Apple, you're paying for a brandnameMacbooks are ridiculously over priced..
Thats apple for you although they are pretty good laptops.Macbooks are ridiculously over priced..
Reminds me of the laptop hunter commercials
They're great for work though.
You pay $1000 just for the apple logo alone.
let the apple snobs say that it is amazing. I am saving money by not buying it.
It's the freaking OS...That is what you are really paying for.
apple has always been over priced
It's the freaking OS...That is what you are really paying for.
You are not getting the Windows OS for free when you buy a prebuilt computer either, brah. The OS's costs the same. It is ONLY the ''design'' you pay for (and quite frankly, who cares that much if your laptop is white or black?)
I know Apples have always been considered overpriced, but I just thought I'd show some people how much they are getting ripped off if they buy one. Although I wouldn't really recommend Alienware's either, as they are also overpriced.
I didn't pay that much for my MacBook Pro, mine came out to around 1,800 bucks but that is with my work discount. Only way to really afford them if you can get discounts otherwise no chance.
The regular Macbook is more reasonably priced. I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would need all that hardware in a laptop in the first place, including the Alienware one.I mean for the amount of money that either one of those laptops cost, you could buy a kickass midtower AND a Macbook.
I'm on my GF's 15' Macbook right now, it was around $1500 bucks it isnt a gaming powerhouse but it works beautifull, everything is streamlined and smooth, I am a PC nut, and Macbooks are alien to me but everything is super simple to figure out, so simple infact I tend to overthink things when I get stuck using it, ha ha. It came preloaded with actual usable software not just bloatware. Macbooks are great for some people, but for most people on this forum it is a waste of money because my guess is you arent using it for what it's intended for.

yep, one little $10 logo costs u a lot. screw mac get a pc. You don't need mac holding your hand to get a good computing experience.
The Macbook is an ''all aluminum uni body shell'' while the Alienware uses ''plastic.''

The Macbook has a multi touch touchpad with innovation controls like a iPod touch. The Alienware is a one finger operation.

The Macbook has iChat and a slew of other features well integrated. Alienware does, but not as easy.

The Macbook is much thinner than the Alienware.

The Macbook is a status symbol.

But apart from that, I guess a wee bit too expensive.
It's the freaking OS...That is what you are really paying for.
OS X costs less than Windows Vista Home Basic
Don't really care of any 'status symbol' and 'aluminium uni body' stuff... Also - I just wouldn't by laptop for gaming. I'd buy (and in fact I did ;)) high-end version of 13 inch MacBook just for the sake of using OS X. It's just way better than Windows and less annoying then Linux. Somewhat between, which makes it actually perfect.
The Macbook is a status symbol.
Rofl, a status symbol? Wow.
Any other news you want to share with us? Haha seriously, this Mac Jewness is nothing new, even Mac fanboys got to admit they get ripped off, but the only difference is they don't care.

Sorry but that Alienware blows the Macbook out of the water about a thousand times over and it's cheaper. Also your status symbol thing just proves my point that you are paying for brandname.
