civilization series?looking for a city-building game
is that likeTropico where you start with nothing and build farms for wood and extra stuff

you start with a territory and some warriors you explore the land around you encounter barbarians and the like. You build your cities and create an empire you meet other leaders and either make peace with them or go to war there are many different ways to win. civ 3 pack on steam for under $10 civ 4 complete pack $40

Why hasn't anybody mentioned the Sim City series yet?
If you loved tropico then you should try Tropico 2: The Pirate Cove. Its much better than the original tropico in my opinion. Also tropico 3 is in the works.

where can i buy that from
which i loved so am after something like that, i have a good pc so i can play most new games but the game does not have to be new, even a pc classic.
unfortunately at this consolized age (= complex rule set is a no-no), City Building game is a dying breed, if not completely dead. and so your ''good'' PC is probably of no use.since you didn't mention, I'd just go ahead recommending Impressions' series of City Building classics: Caeser games, Pharaoh, Zeus, and Emperor: Rise of Middle Kingdom. my personal favorite is Zeus, but all of them are pretty good.sim city is simply building without purpose, story and mystery. Impressions' works have; Civilization is not a city building game; it's turn base empire management and strategy game (you don't build a city from scratch to every detail: buiding, water fountain, road blocks and etc.).

I recommend Grand Ages : Rome. It's a nice underrated city building game by a small company and has a bonus of building armies and fighting, although the city building itself has better mechanics. Oh and , you may have figured already, you build Roman cities. But still cool
The Settler series(1-4)?
What about just The Sims Series? I mean yeah you have people but I mean you can basically build city's if that's what you want minus the people factor. The Sims 3 has alot of depth in this area. I can sit and build house and businesses and all sorts of things without ever playing a sim. I leave that up to my woman heh. She loves that game already. Just a thought.
I always thought Blac %26 White 2 allowed me to make some of the coolest cities, amongst other interesting things that game does.

You could try Rome: Total War.You don't build a city like you would in Sim City, but you get to control and decide what buildings go up and you build armies and you can decide to fight the battles yourself or let the AI do the battle for you.It gets tough in certain spots, especially if you try to manage every single city/nation that you've conqured. It's best to let the AI have control over non-essential citys/nations so you don't have to worry about every little detail. That's about the only game I can think of that isn't a Sim City game, but it does allow you to control certain aspects of building citys and raging war, if you want.
Simcity4 or Civilization series?I just started to play Simcity4 again, and its pretty fun still hehe.
Wait for Cities XL later this year, it's gonna be the new Simcity.

If you like building bases then Supreme Comander is worth a look, Civ 4 is ok as well but it's incredibly simplified.
