Anarchy Online free - Any good?

I currently play Guild Wars off and on for free, but I love(d) AO when it came out way back when. Few questions...Does the free version restrict useage? I.e. only people who pay monthly get certain areas?Does free version have alot of content, pvp?Does anyone play, have a guild - or have any general advice for it? (I was an adventurer I think, but it won't let me use that account to play)*EditWhats a good soloing class? I was thinking engineer if I remember right they have good pet stuff.Anarchy Online free - Any good?
Like i've said countless of times before, the words ''free'' and ''great'' hardly come togeather when we talk about MMOs. If it's good, then chances are, it's not 100% free. The ''free'' part will only get you up to a certain point. Then you'll probably have to pay to progress. Why would you spend so much time, effort and money creating and maintaining a game and then give it out for free?Anarchy Online free - Any good?
That response was so vague I'm guessing you haven't/don't play it.This post is for informed readers only please :(
I played it for about a year after Funcom released the title to be free online. My only misgivings about the game was it was a constant grind, you will run into the same areas and mission opportunities, over, and over again, when given a mission selection, its cookie cutter. Also, as you may recall the game is relatively old, so the graphics aren't quite top-notch, but the gameplay tended to make up for that. The only PVP opportunities I have run into is running out of town a fighting in the open areas. You might want to check out RF Online, its pretty much the same game, but you get three different factions, and a bit more PVP interation, and it looks a bit better than AO. Although in my eyes the games are pretty much alike in standard.I don't recall having to spend any money to buy special ''uber'', items, but there were a few restrictions during the time I played mostly pointed at the locations you were allowed in. Which all stemed from having the expansion, (same as WoW, and Everquest setup), which I found out really didn't too much when there is alot more to explore in the primary lands. Funcom mostly makes in money in AO by throwing up advertisements on billboards, which was the reason why AO has been so successful for so long.
So is this worth a download? I really need something to kill a bit of time.
It is the only MMO I've actually played for more than an hour and I enjoyed it. It isn't anything special and didn't keep my attention for more than 20 hours but I still remember the time I spent with the game, which is saying a lot. What I liked most about it was the fact it wasn't a medieval fantasy MMO. It's free, you could just try it and see for yourself.

I think I will. Cheers :)

I hate grind more than anything. If the game doesn't provide enough quests to level up quickly, then i tend to lose interest after a while. The game's not bad, just too much grind. But yeah, i'll leave the answering to the ''informed readers'' who'll tell you it's the best game they've ever played.
It's easily the best free MMO out.
I currently play Guild Wars off and on for free, but I love(d) AO when it came out way back when. Few questions... Does the free version restrict useage? I.e. only people who pay monthly get certain areas? Yes, only paying players can access Shadowlands and Alien Playfields. Does free version have alot of content, pvp? Yes, for the most part, Rubi-Ka is a large world. Although, with expansions, there is better equipment, perks, more things to do and more areas to explore. I could never play the free version, it would completely bore me after seeing what more there is out there in the expansions. Does anyone play, have a guild - or have any general advice for it? (I was an adventurer I think, but it won't let me use that account to play) Yes, I have played for 4 years and am an officer in a prominent org on the Atlantean Server. As far as general advice? Go ahead and try the free version, you have nothing to lose. I just think the people who dislike the game are people that haven't experienced how much expansion content adds. Like I said before, I could never go to just being a free player. If you want to know more specifics I'd be happy to elaborate...just ask what you want to know.*EditWhats a good soloing profession I was thinking engineer if I remember right they have good pet stuff. A lot of professions are good soloers, these are probably easier/better though...Adventurer, Martial Artist, Doctor, Meta-Physicist, Engineer, Agent, Shade*, and Keeper*. * = Must have Shadowlands
Interesting, it wouldn't let me post this with the word ''C L A S S'' in there...lol...so, I changed it to ''profession'' and my responses are in red. ;)

Yes sadly, they are Shadowlands and Alien Playfields.

Does free version have alot of content, pvp?
Yep, you still get to go to 200, just 20 levels away from what paid players get to go to.
Does anyone play, have a guild - or have any general advice for it? (I was an adventurer I think, but it won't let me use that account to play)
I'm in an ORGANIZATION (guild) and it's called Serendipity.
*Edit

Whats a good soloing **** I was thinking engineer if I remember right they have good pet stuff. Doctor is the best solo proffesion because of there insane nano regen and nice heals.

i really thought this conversation was about anarchy? not guild wars! anyway i want to know aswell if anarchy online is a really good game...
I've never played an MMO before, so I tried AO a while ago because it was free. It's actually a very fun/addicting game. The community is friendly towards newbies as well and are very helpful. Overall a good MMO IMO and defintely worth it cause it's free :)
I played it for a few hours. The game was too complex with hardly any introduction. The enviroments were bland and so were the characters/enemies. I didn't really enjoy any point of it.

Vague answer number 2.
That's why i said i'll leave the answers to ''informed readers'' like you, genius.
So what you are saying is you really don't want to give any informative answers to the TC, but instead make snarky remarks? Cool...Anyways, my experience with the game was pretty good. Like already mentioned it is a VERY ''grindy'' game....but the class customization is very in depth and there is a great deal of content. It's one of the more complicated MMO's I have played and when you first start it feels pretty overwhelming. But if you invest a bit of time it can be rewarding. The graphics stink but if you can deal with that (or don't care about graphics) it can be very fun.Anyways, to your specific questions:Does the free version restrict useage? I.e. only people who pay monthly get certain areas?-Yes...I can't remember all the particulars but the paid expansions offer new areas and higher levels I believe.Does free version have alot of content, pvp?-Tons of content. I played the free version for months and didn't see everything.Whats a good soloing class? I was thinking engineer if I remember right they have good pet stuff.-check out http://anarchyonline.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page for all the info you need. They have great guides on leveling, classes, builds, ect.Anyways, I played the free version for like 5 months and ended up subscribing for like 2 more months. It was fun but eventually got boring. But hey, for free why not make up your own mind :P
I played it for a few hours. The game was too complex with hardly any introduction. The game is very complex and at first you feel pretty overwhelmed. But like I said if you give it time you come to appreciate the complexities.
